The Music Therapy Toolbox: Assessments explores the basic tenets of assessments, including the purpose, assessment tools and instruments, assessment procedures, interpreting and reporting assessment information, and implementing the assessment information in therapy. The course includes an audio discussion and a workbook with these topics:

• Chapter 1: What’s Involved. Overview of the assessment process.
• Chapter 2: Purpose of Assessments. Discussion of the different purposes of assessments.
• Chapter 3: Assessment Tools. Discussion of utilizing standardized or customized assessment tools. Checklist of elements and options for a customized assessment instrument.
• Chapter 4: Assessment Procedures. Overview of procedures utilized to conduct assessments.
• Chapter 5: Interpreting Information. Overview of factors to consider when interpreting background information and assessment observations.
• Chapter 6: Reporting Results. Overview of factors to consider when reporting assessment results and recommendations. Sample format and checklist of components for a written assessment report.
• Chapter 7: Taking the Next Step. Discussion of strategies for effectively implementing the results of an assessment.

Learners will also learn to interpret the assessment information and communicate the results in a helpful, efficient manner.
